Tournament Information & Rules

1. Important Information
   Who: Everyone, especially you!
   What: All-commons Standard PDC tournament
   When: Every Monday - registration opens at 2:00PM EST / 7:00PM GMT and round 1 starts approximately 30 minutes after registration opens
   Where: Casual - Anything Goes room, /join MPDC
   Why: To have fun, compete, win fortune and get famous
   Cost: Absolutely free
   Host: gwyned
   Substitute Hosts: None so far
   Special notes:
   
   • Any particular event will be cancelled if no more than 8 players register
     
   • In order to receive their prizes, the Top 8 players are required to submit their decklists into Gatherling or post them on the event thread. The deadline for this is 48 hours following the event.
     
   • MPDC maintains a Prize Pool, which can be viewed here.
   
   
   
2. Registration, Reporting, and Drops
   
   • All regular season events are open to anyone and everyone! Just type /join mpdc.
     
   • Once in /join mpdc, players will be directed to /join mpdccom to register (type 'reg') and to report results and drops.
     
   • Please keep both channels open for the duration of the tournament.
     
   • Pairings and standings will be posted in an appropriate thread on the Wizards Community Forums, so keep that thread open in your browser during the event as well.
     
   • Players desiring to drop from the tournament must type "DROP" in the mpdccom room chat window.
     
   • Drops must be reported! This makes the tournament much smoother and more fun for players and host alike!
     
   • Latecommers can't be registered unless the host decides otherwise.
   
   
   
3. Deck Construction
   
   • Standard format (Shards of Alara, Conflux and Alara Reborn; Magic 2010; Zendikar; versions of Standard cards from earlier sets are allowed as proxies).
     
   • PDC rules (black expansion symbol commons only; cards that were uncommon in earlier sets but are now common in Standard are allowed as proxies - this does not work the other way round).
     
   • Deck must remain the same throughout the tournament; failure to do so will result in tournament DQ.
     
   • Showing up with a illegal deck will get you a matchloss once discovered. Illegal cards need to be swapped for basic lands before the next round.
   
   
   
4. Tournament Structure
   
   • The number of Swiss rounds and Finals cutoff will be determined by the number of players:
     
     
     
     • With less than 18 players, we will play three rounds of Swiss followed by a Top 4 cutoff.
       
     • With 18 players or more, we will play three rounds of Swiss and a Top 8 cutoff.
       
     • With 24 players or more, we will play four rounds of Swiss before a Top 8 cutoff.
       
     • With 35 players of more, we will play five rounds of Swiss before a Top 8 cutoff.
       
     
     
   • Rounds consist of 60-minute timed "best 2-out-of-3 games" matches (choose 30 minutes event timer).
     
   • Matches are played in the Casual Play > Anything Goes room.
     
   • All matches must be [b]watchable and labeled "MPDC X.XX Round Y"[/b], where X.XX is the event ID (season number + dot + event number) and Y is the current round; or "MPDC X.XX Top 8"; or "MPDC X.XX Top 4"; or "MPDC X.XX Finals". It is the responsibility of both players to ensure matches are set up correctly.
     
   • We are here to play and have fun. Intentional draws (IDs) are not allowed.
     
   • If a player is not available to start the match within 10 minutes of pairing announcements, that player forfeits a match. Please, PM your opponent if he or she is not showing up in a timely fashion.
     
   • After each match, both players are required to post the match results in the MPDCCOM channel according to this example (pick an appropriate line):
     W 2-0
     W 2-1
     L 0-2
     L 1-2
     You can include any additional information (like "my opponent didn't show up on time" or "drop"), but please, be brief to keep the MPDCCOM channel lucid.
     
   • If your opponent lost because his timer reached zero, your score becomes 2-0 (if your opponent didn't win any game) or 2-1 (if your opponent won one game).
   
   
   
5. Season Points and Power Rankings
   You will be awarded:
   
   • 3 points for each win
     
   • 2 points for each bye
     
   • 1 point for each loss
     
   • 12.60 Power Rating (PR) points for the first place
     
   • 8.40 PR points for the second place
     
   • 7.00 PR points for the third place
     
   • 6.30 PR points for the fourth place (or Top 4 in case of Top X Single Elimination)
     
   • 5.88 PR points for the fifth place
     
   • 5.60 PR points for the sixth place
     
   • 5.40 PR points for the seventh place
     
   • 5.25 PR points for the eighth place (or Top 8 in case of Top X Single Elimination)
   
   Players are required to post their decklists before the next MPDC event or forfeit points earned in this event. Posting your list can be done either in Gatherling or as a reply to the Wizards Community Forums event thread. Please note that posting your deck in Gatherling is preferred. Ensure your deck has been submitted correctly - if your decklist is incomplete, you may forfeit your points!
   
   
6. Season Championship
   
   • Cut-off for the Championship is 32 players (based on the Season Points, with Power Rankings being the tiebreaker).
     
   • This Seasons Championship (Worlds) will be held the Monday before the Worldmake release events on MTGO (RL release date is February 5, 2010; the standard delay for MTGO is 3-4 weeks). Final date will be posted when known. Try and keep this date free if you want to cash in your invite.
     
   • Invitations will be passed down if any of the Top 32 invited players can't attend.
     
   • Details will be posted in the Season Championship event thread.
   
   
   
7. Player Conduct Guidelines
   
   • Players are expected to follow widely-accepted PDC Community guidelines for conduct to maintain a fair and civil playing environment.
     
   • Watchers are expected not to chat in other games.
     
   • Watchers must respect the wishes of players.
     
   • Players are expected to only use the MPDCCOM chat window for posting results.
     
   • Players are requested to contact the host via private messaging to report a concern regarding player conduct.
     
   • The host reserves the right to use widely-accepted disciplinary measures to enforce these guidelines.
     
   • The host is not responsible for making judgments based on game play situations. The host will not enter a match table and tell players what to do. The host is a facilitator, not a judge.
   
   
   
8. MTGO Crashes & Cancelled Events
   
   • In the event of a server crash or other technical difficulty with MTGO, the tournament will be suspended for no more than one hour total.
     
   • In the case of multiple server crashes, if the tournament is within 15 minutes of reaching the one hour suspension-time limit, the final tournament suspension will be 15 minutes.
     
   • The Wizards Community Forums event thread will be used for tournament communication during the tournament suspension.
     
   • Once the technical difficulties have ended, an announcement will be made on the appropriate thread, and players will have 10 minutes to rejoin the tournament.
     
   • If the tournament is cancelled during the first four rounds, then no prizes will be awarded and they will roll into the prize pool for the next event.
     
   • If the tournament is cancelled after round four, prizes will be awarded according to the current standings.
     
   • In any crash situation, stay tuned to the event thread for official announcements from the host.

FAQ

Q: I have participated in an event, but I can't see myself neither in Season Standings nor Player Rankings parts of this document. Why?
There can be two reasons for this:

1. Season Standings & Player Rankings are updated once a week. After the event ends, SS & PR are updated according to the previous event (you have a one week period to submit your deck for the last event).
   
2. You haven't submitted your deck in Gatherling or on the appropriate Wizards Community Forum thread in time, meaning you get no season points. Please see Tournament Information & Rules for more information.

Q: This document says that MPDC events are "absolutely free" and still there are prizes, Where are they from?
A: The prizes come from our sponsors, who usually are common players like yourself! If you want to donate some prizes, just contact the event's host. The exception from this is MTGOTraders, who is an online shop owner that agreed to sponsor our tournament.

Q: How can I submit my deck into Gatherling?
A: It's very easy, just follow these steps (the process will take you about 1 minute once you are familiar with it):

1. Save your list from MTGO as a .txt file.
   
2. Open it in a simple editor such as Notepad.
   
3. Select and copy the main deck contents.
   
4. Paste them into the Gatherling deck entry window.
   
5. Select and copy the sideboard contents.
   
6. Paste them into the Gatherling deck entry window.
   
7. Select an archetype.
   
8. Name your deck!
   
9. Press the button to save the decklist!

Q: What is the difference between Season Points and Power Rankings?
A: Season Points show how much you win: the more you win, the more SP you have. For each match you win, you get 3 SP. Byes and losses also give you SP (2 SP and 1 SP respectively). To receive any SP, you have to submit your decklist in time given for any particular event (usually two days since the event started) - you get no SP if you fail to do so.
Power Ranking show how good you do when you play. The more Top 8/4/2/1 finishes you make, the better your PR will be. You don't have to submit your decklist in order to change your PR. Details on the PR formula can be found here.

Q: I have a question which I can't find an answer for in this document. What should I do?
A: You can use these boards to ask any questions, or just send a PM to the host. Pauper players will be glad to help you.
