9:01 53N531: Livin' the dream
Round 1: Kaityson36 playing UR Aggro-Control, W 2-0
This may have been 2-1; I can't remember. I do remember Kaity conceding when he wasn't quite out of it, saying "I'm surprised my deck did as well as it did." Which, I suppose, I was too... it didn't look that bad to me. It was a challenging match. I never got the Baku engine going. I won off the back of X/1s and flying Moths.
Round 2: eegag playing GUr Wisdom, W 2-0
Poor eegag had to keep fishing every game I faced him tonight -- of which there were four overall. His deck was slow to develop and I was on the board in a big way by time he had anything to respond to me with.
Round 3: hurriboy playing RG Land Destruction, W 2-1
This was a very close and intense match, with major stalling on ground warfare. (Akki Blizzard-Herder kept me at bay with my three Hearth Kamis.) The game I lost was due to running out of patience, which is in short supply in my psyche. Still, I managed to out-burn him and survive on a smaller number of lands than usual. I think I boarded more successfully for game three, though I am at a loss to remember what I did.
Round 4: Me5794 playing RG Splice Aggro, L 1-2
The only match loss for the night. The deciding card was a Scaled Hulk, the 4/4 with Spiritcraft that grows +2/+2. I couldn't handle that without a Waxmane Baku, which I didn't have. He out-Rayed me, out-beatsed me, and took the match.
Semifinals: Eegag playing GUr Wisdom, W 2-0
Same story as before. I didn't really even get to see his deck in action.
Finals: solebush1 playing UBGr Zuberas, W 2-0
His deck was slow to start and I had burn-heavy draws both of these games. I had machine-gun action with Lava Spikes, Spiritual Visits, and Glacial Rays, and they were all aimed at his head. I saved the Yamabushi's Flames for the Zuberas.
It was a really small field by XPDC standards, but it was fun nonetheless, and the games were very challenging (which is always the case with Kamigawa Block.) I had a blast.
Thanks to everyone who played tonight, thanks to the prize donors, and thanks to Eegag for hosting! _________________
