(b/r) Blightning Burn (b/r)
MPDC 4.05, 4-1, 1st place

MAINDECK
Creatures
4 Phyrexian Rager
4 Ravenous Rats

Spells
4 Blightning
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Incinerate
4 Lash Out
4 Puncture Blast
4 Shock
4 Tarfire
1 Terror

Lands
10 Mountain
6 Swamp
4 Terramorphic Expanse
3 Jund Panorama

SIDEBOARD
3 Blister Beetle
3 Eyeblight's Ending
3 Festercreep
3 Magma Spray
2 Ember Gale
1 Terror

zippy75 won MPDC 4.05 with this list, so I thought it deserves it's own thread. I like the idea of this deck, but I would probably made some changes (mind you, I haven't tested this deck yet):

Maindeck: - 1 Lash Out, -1 Puncture Blast, -1 Dragon Fodder, + 2 Shard Volley, +1 Raven's Crime

Sideboard: -3 Blister Beetle, + 2 Terror, + 1 Lash Out

I think Dragon Fodder is not that good in this deck (turn 2 Dragon Fodder into Giantbaiting on turn 3 is crazy). Raven's Crime can destroy the remnants of opponent's hand (already plundered by Ravenous Rats and Blightning).

I'm not sure against which deck is Blister Beetle better than Festercreep or Ember Gale. On the other hand, I think this deck gets hosed by Burn Tree (should I keep his tree alive or waste two of my burn spells?), hence the Terrors.

I would love to play this deck, but I want to win a trophy for Esperized! first Wink.

You can discuss!

Not sure your analysis on burn tree is right. Unless they can accelerate from bannerets this deck can strip their hand quite easily, and puncture blast shrinks trees down to size very well.
I think some recursion might be all it needs, say gravedigger or pilferer.

Maybe you are right, JMason. I can't argue much until I actually try to play this deck. However, the reasoning I did was that Puncture Blast surely does shrink Trees, but they're still X/1 that can chump block your Ravenous Rats or the tokens from Dragon Fodder (and some of them can even kill them while even though they're shrinked) - meaning you are still trading two cards for one. I like Puncture Blast, but to kill a Treefolk, I would rather have Terror in my hand.

I aggree that Gravedigger or Warren Pilferers could be useful in this deck. I would probably stick with Gravedigger (to stay on the curve of this deck), two or three copies. I can't say what I would take out without testing.

Moreover, I've been thinking about the lands and I would definitely go -1 Terramorphic Expanse and +1 Jund Panorama. The only cards that can't use mana from Panorama are Shock and Tarfire, which means you don't need to crack it the same turn it comes into play (like T1 Moutain, T2 Panorama and now you wait to see what your opponent does to either play Incinerate or crack the Panorama EOT). You can't to this with the Expanse.

I wonder if Blightning Burn benefits from Conflux. Rotting Rats can take the place of Ravenous Rats, as they have better synergy with Viscera Dragger. Here's a decklist I've been thinking about:

Land:
10 Mountain
6 Swamp
4 Jund Panorama

1cc:
4 Shock
4 Tarfire
4 Shard Volley

2cc:
4 Incinerate
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Rotting Rats
4 Viscera Dragger

3cc:
4 Puncture Blast
4 Blightning
4 Phyrexian Rager

Let me know what you think.

I wonder why no one side boards Hurly-Burly. It wipes faeries.

SPDC 8.04 Second Place Deck:

MAINDECK
Creatures
4 Phyrexian Rager
4 Rotting Rats
4 Viscera Dragger

Spells
4 Blightning
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Incinerate
4 Puncture Blast
4 Shard Volley
4 Shock
4 Tarfire

Lands
10 Mountain
6 Swamp
4 Jund Panorama

I didn't have a sideboard, I just wanted to test out the deck, and look...second place! Fatties are a problem though. 4 Terror will be in the side next time I run this deck, and the 4 Shard Volley will be replaced with 4 TERMINATE (that is, if it's not a cruel April Fools Joke).

Having played this deck extensivly over the last couple of weeks, I have 4 topics I would like to address and hope my input can help.

Rotting Rats vs. Ravenous Rats - Ravenous Rats hands down. There is no card advantage generated. Viscera Dragger is in the deck to cycle a removal card into your hand and recured later to go to the dome.

Dragon Fodder - This i believe depends on if your playing aggro or control.
Aggro will want a body that can reach the dome. Control will like it's defensive capability providing 2 chump blockers.

Lash out - i don't like it in aggro or control builds simply because both builds want to go to the dome as soon as possible. Not wait for their opponent to put out a threat that this may take care of, and then hoping that it can win the clash to get dome damage in.

Terror vs Puncture Blast - blast wins out simply due to the amount of Shield of Valeron decks that we have seen over the last few weeks. Terror won't get rid of the shields main target, outlander. Blast, even if you have to top deck it will still shrink the indestructable critter even if it isn't outlander.

That's all i got. Hope it helps.

These are the changes I made since my second place finish:

1. Increased land count from 20 to 22 lands (most Blightning Burn decks run 22-23 lands).

2. Terminate replaced Shard Volley.

3. Ravenous Rats replaced Rotting Rats (all top 8 Blightning Burn decks run Ravenous Rats).

4. Decreased Viscera Dragger by 2 (this was the hardest change, since the Dragger is awesome).

So here's my current decklist:

Land:
10 Mountain
8 Swamp
4 Jund Panorama

1cc:
4 Shock
4 Tarfire

2cc:
4 Terminate
4 Incinerate
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Ravenous Rats

3cc:
4 Puncture Blast
4 Blightning
4 Phyrexian Rager

4cc:
2 Viscera Dragger

Let me know what you think.

Has anyone tried something like -4 Tarfire, +3 Shard Volley, +1 Flame Jab, and if so, was it worthwhile?

I'd really like to take advantage of Jund Hackblade. Having a 3/2 haste on turn two seems really good (especially on the play). Since this deck needs to run 22 "lands", and if I run 4 of each spell, that puts me at 62 cards. What 2 cards should I cut?

Land:
10 Mountain
8 Swamp

1cc:
4 Shock
4 Tarfire
4 Veinfire Borderpost

2cc:
4 Incinerate
4 Lash Out
4 Jund Hackblade
4 Ravenous Rats

3cc:
4 Blightning
4 Phyrexian Rager
4 Kathari Bomber

4cc:
4 Viscera Dragger
